Whats App calls, which require a mobile or Wi-Fi internet connection, have been available on Android since the start of this year but were only recently added to the i Phone app.
LINE implemented the feature to its suite of apps in summer 2013.
To the 310 million monthly active Snapchat users, many of whom are in their teens and early 20s: Sorry, but old people are about to crash your party. And that is exactly why the app is exploding in use, even recently overtaking Twitter in terms of daily users.
(I’m not even 40, and I’m one of them.) However – Whats App was recently criticised for draining huge amounts of mobile data for voice calls in comparison to rival services.
A shocking test by Android Pit has revealed that Whats App uses 1.3Mb of data per MINUTE when making a phone call.
This is not a problem if you are connected to an unlimited Wi Fi hotspot – but Whats App could quickly romp though a restricted 3G or 4G data plan.

Although both Whats App and LINE sport the ability to send text messages, photos, videos and voice calls over mobile data and wifi connections, LINE does have one major advantage. Whats App currently operates on a subscription plan of 69p per year – although the Facebook-owned app does offer one-year for free.
